Professional Interests

  • Genomic and RNA profiling utilizing cutting edge whole genome/transcriptome technologies to understand cancer and metastases

Professional Statement

I am interested in genomic profiling technologies and how these technologies can be used to answer questions in cancer, especially the changes that occur at the genomic, transcriptomic, and regulatory levels. For example, utilizing high throughput sequencing platforms we can assay the entire genome with applications like mRNA-seq, smallRNA-seq, ChIP-seq, whole genome sequencing, etc. I am particularly interested in genomic changes that result in progression to metastasis in cancer models. These changes can be chromosomal (copy number gains and losses) that affect coding genes and, importantly, non-coding RNAs or microRNAs.

As Director of the Genomic & RNA Profiling Core at BCM, I support high throughput genomic and RNA profiling technologies for members of the BCM community and throughout the Texas Medical Center. We collaborate with users from the Dan L Duncan Cancer Center, The BCM Diabetes Research Center, The Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center, and the Texas Medical Center Digestive Disease Center.
